With around 80 production lines manufacturing an equal number of unique products, MoldTecs faced a complex challenge in optimizing their operations. From their facility in LNaval, France, the high-performance plastics specialist supplies more than 100 automotive plants across Europe. To address these challenges, MoldTecs partnered with idealworks, leveraging its robotics ecosystem to streamline intralogistics processes and support their workforce.
Automation for Efficiency and Safety
One of the primary drivers for automation was improving efficiency while reducing the physical and mental strain on employees. By introducing the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) iw.hub, repetitive and physically demanding tasks were delegated to the robotic team member, allowing personnel to focus on more value-added activities.
“The greatest advantages of automation are improved safety, relief from heavy workloads, and progress towards Industry 4.0. We are proud to contribute to the modernization of the industry,” explains Pascal Cribier, Site Manager at MoldTecs.
Seamless Integration into Existing Systems
Beyond process complexity, MoldTecs required a solution that could seamlessly integrate into their existing infrastructure. Pascal Cribier highlights three key reasons for partnering with idealworks: the smooth integration of AMRs into all processes, compatibility with existing systems through intuitive interfaces and flexible APIs, and user-friendly operation that minimizes training needs.
“The true strength of AnyFleet lies in its intuitive handling. Creating missions or resolving issues is incredibly straightforward,” says Thierry Mongondry, Supervisor Logistics Operations at MoldTecs.
A Gradual, Risk-Free Implementation
Initially, goods transport between production and warehouse areas relied on manual tugger trains. During the implementation, idealworks ensured these manual processes continued uninterrupted while gradually introducing automation. To minimize risks, they began a pilot deployment, automating a portion of the operations. This staged approach demonstrated the solution’s effectiveness, leading to a smooth transition to full-scale deployment.
The integration of idealworks’ automation platform AnyFleet into the existing warehouse management system was achieved effortlessly using an API and minimal additional coding.
Empowering Employees through Knowledge Sharing
MoldTecs invested in extensive training for their staff, building in-house expertise to ensure quick troubleshooting and reduce dependency on external support. For more complex challenges, the idealworks Helpdesk and field specialists provide prompt and reliable assistance.
Scaling Up Success
Starting with three iw.hubs, MoldTecs scaled up to double the amountnumber of AMRs operating in a three-shift system, fully replacing the manual tugger trains.
“Seeing the iw.hubs in action every day makes us proud. It is also reassuring to see the AMRs instead of manual vehicles, as it significantly enhances our safety at our site,” remarks Yanek Pann, Coordinator Lean Production at MoldTecs
By adopting idealworks’ robotics ecosystem, MoldTecs not only optimized processes but also created a safer and more efficient work environment, paving the way for a modernized approach to intralogistics. Their journey highlights how tailored automation solutions can drive tangible benefits in even the most complex operational landscapes.
