Faster, Higher, Stronger: idealworks’ Success Story at Geis Group

An owner-managed freight forwarding and logistics company, Geis Group provides both standardized and customized transport solutions, covering the entire range of logistics services. With a strong focus on innovation, the company successfully combines what belongs together: Since the beginning of 2022, the employees of the World Distribution Center (WDC) at the Neu-Isenburg site near Frankfurt/Main have been supported by idealworks’ robotics ecosystem.

In contract logistics in particular, Geis focuses on innovative solutions, since optimizing logistics processes is an advantage for both clients and employees who are benefitting from increased efficiency and reliability. In January 2022, Geis and idealworks kicked off a three-week pilot phase, during which idealworks’ robotics ecosystem was tested at the Neu-Isenburg site.

Shortly after the test phase, Geis Group decided to hold on to both autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that were part of the pilot, and to acquire another three iw.hubs. Meanwhile the robotics ecosystem in the WDC consists of the cloud platform and core component AnyFleet, five iw.hubs, two charging stations as well as 23 Pallet Dock solutions. The Pallet Dock as a handling station in combination with the Pallet Extension as an attachment for the iw.hub enables the AMR to independently pick up and deliver pallets and pallet cages, without the need for dollies – a system that is suitable for all applications that predominantly use forklifts.

The central cloud platform AnyFleet acts as a control platform with end-to-end order management as well as fleet and traffic management and is connected to the warehouse management system (WMS) of the Geis location via an interface. The entire process can thus be tracked in real time.

idealworks’ iw.hubs support the storage and retrieval processes of pallets in order to reliably and quickly transport these very pallets from goods receipt to the storage areas and from the storage areas to the goods issue:

“idealworks’ solution portfolio makes everyday work a lot easier for our warehouse employees by automatically driving pallets to destination buffer locations via predefined transport routes. This allows the employees to focus on upstream and downstream processes, such as storing and picking the load carriers.”

– Christoph Krieg, Head of Innovation Management Logistics Services at Geis Group.
